Panther Chameleon

                       Habitat 

Panther chameleons are native to tropical forest habitat in Northern Madagascar. Different color variations are named for the specific location where they can be found. Panther chameleons from Ambilobe, Madagascar and are typically barred in bright red, green, orange and sometimes blue.

                                    Fun Facts​​
  • Chameleons do not change color to blend in with their surroundings. The color changes are way for chameleons to communicate with one another and to help them regulate their body temperature.
  • Chameleons have very long tongues which they use to  catch the insects that they eat. The tip of the tongue is similar to a suction cup and they can hit a bug 6 or more inches away in less time than it takes us to blink.
 



Chameleons are a family of lizards that are typically found in Africa. They are best known for their ability to change colors. The panther chameleon is one of the larger and more colorful species and can reach sizes of up to 20”.

​Lifespan: Males: 5-7 years, Females: 3-4 years.
 

​Diet: Mainly insects although they occasionally eat some leaves.
